About & Contact

I am an award-winning magazine writer, war reporter, and foreign correspondent, and a consultant writer, researcher, and editor.

My reporting, long-form stories, and essays have appeared in many publications, including National Geographic, GQ, Harper’s, New Yorker, Emergence, and London Review of Books.

My journalism has won numerous awards, including from the Overseas Press Club of America, the Prix Bayeux for War Correspondents, and the Society of Environmental Journalists, and has been shortlisted for multiple National Magazine, Kurt Schork, and One World Media awards.

I was born in Cape Town, have lived in London, Kampala, Accra, and Nairobi, and after nearly 20 years in different parts of Africa, am now in Woodbridge in the UK.

Alongside my freelance journalism, I also work as a writer, researcher, and editor for non-governmental and philanthropic organisations, UN agencies, and private companies.
